Working out at home holds many advantages but many people are apprehensive about starting for various reasons. The most common reason being that they feel it is necessary to buy expensive home gyms. Many all-in-one home gyms are quite expensive and take up a lot of space which is inconvenient if you have a small home.
The same is true for other exercise machines like treadmills, stationary bikes, and ellipticals. Most people go machine shopping when they are ready to workout again and most equipment is left unused once the novelty has worn off.
A Better Workout Program for Home
The good news is that you don't need fancy machines to create an effective home workout program. I keep my home gym very low budget. My home gym consists of dumbbells (light and heavy), stability ball, elastic bands, and a jump rope. The exercises are simple as well. I find body weight exercises much more effective in terms of fat burning and time saving.
A full-body workout can be achieved by performing exercises such as calisthenics, plyometrics, and interval training. These types of exercises are great fat burners because they build muscle. Muscle burns fat and calories so the more you have, the more you will burn. They require at most some dumbbells but for the most part, you can use your own body weight. Typical exercises include push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, lunges, squats, and jumping jacks.
Another favorite home workout routine I enjoy are on fitness dvd's. There are some so-so programs out there and ones that are top quality. You can find programs from everything like yoga to extreme fitness.
What I enjoy most about in-home fitness programs is that you can workout any time of the day. It is like having your own personal trainers waiting for you. You can build up a library of workout programs and mix them up to add variety to your routines. They are also great for traveling. As long as you have access to a dvd player, you can exercise wherever you are.
Working out at home can be very effective. You save time and money because you don't have to travel to and from a gym or pay for monthly membership fees. Even celebrities use fitness programs such as P90X (a popular home fitness program on dvd.) It is a matter of finding fun workouts and taking at least an hour out of your day to exercise.
